Local Transport Taxi
Taxis are not as cheap as they used to be and are swiftly losing
the battle against the excellent public transportation network.
Taxi meters are not set at the same rates and that had caused
many misunderstandings that should be avoided at all cost. The
legally in line taxis (those possessing yellow number plate and
yellow signs on them) provide a much better service than the others
The Coaches
Patience plays an important role in this transport sector as journey
time may take up to 28 – 30 hours. On the other hand the services
offered are usually cheap and certain organizations provide flexible
ticket options. You will also find fully escorted tours and one-day
coach tours that will take you around Budapest The
Metro
Budapest has three metro lines (M1 – Yellow, M2 – Red, M3 – Blue)
which all intersect at Deakter in the very heart of Pest. The
metro runs between 4.30 am and 11.00 pm. Budapest offers an efficient
service and controls are quite frequent. To utilize the service
you have to buy a pre-purchased ticket that can be bought either
at ticket offices or newsstands Trams
With its classical style and its yellow color it is easy to identify
the Budapest’s trams. The trams play an important role in Budapest’s
transportation and it is estimated that 370,000 people utilise
the system that is renowned both for its efficiency and quality
service.
There are also two interesting tram museums that deserve a visit.
One of them is the Museum of Transport and is situated in the
City Park, the other one is the Museum of Public Transport in
Szentendre Trains
Budapest has 3 main train stations from which every international
and domestic train departs. These train stations are just 45 minutes
away (or less) from the airport and can be easily accessed through
the metro system and Railbus service. |
